What does the JLD do?

The JLD provides members with an opportunity to network and, importantly, to connect with other junior lawyers, discuss issues that concern them and benefit from training and advice provided at conferences and meetings. We hold social events where students and junior lawyers can meet each other and potential employers. This year we are hoping to set up a work experience scheme.
Your JLD

The JLD is responsible for representing junior lawyers, which means:
• campaigning and lobbying on issues affecting this sector
• providing junior lawyers with the opportunity to influence the future of the profession through their involvement
• giving advice and providing information
• providing pastoral support to members
• responding to consultations, particularly those of the SRA
• international outreach
• running competitively priced or free accredited continuing professional
• development training and development events
• social and networking events held nationally and locally

I undertake a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious work in all aspects of employment law, industrial relations and human resources support for both claimants and respondents, but mainly the latter.

A keen and tenacious advocate, I regularly appear in the Employment Tribunals, preferring where possible to conduct my own litigation. I have acted for many household name clients, as well as public bodies and SME's in Employment Tribunal cases throughout the UK (London, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Leicester, Cardiff), successfully defending a wide range of claims including redundancy dismissals, business reorganisations, discrimination and gross misconduct cases.

I have, over the years, gained a great deal of experience in negotiation, including via ACAS and various Trades Unions.

I have also acted for a Welsh public sector organisation in the role of Presenting Officer, in relation to cases involving unacceptable professional conduct, criminal convictions and serious professional incompetence.

I am a regular speaker on the seminar circuit and deliver employment law updates and specifically tailored training sessions.

A number of my articles and editorials have been published in the South Wales Evening Post, Western Mail, Business Wales, Business Insider and Swansea Business Life and in 2007, I was nominated for Welsh Woman of the Year in the management achievement category.
